It’s a big decision to store your valuable items in a self storage unit. You may choose to store your china or crystal that doesn’t have a place in your home at the moment. It’s very important to make sure that you pack your china and crystal correctly. If it’s packed incorrectly you may wind up with some broken pieces.
Both china and crystal require a specific packing process. They are both fragile and need to be carefully packed. The packing process is broken down into two sections. The bowls and plates are packed the same way, and the teacups and glasses are packed another way.
Items You’ll Need
Small and medium boxes are required when you’re packing up these items. It’s also a good idea to have additional cardboard. Blank newsprint and bubble wrap will help you prevent the pieces from hitting each other. Styrofoam packing peanuts will provide extra padding for the pieces. You’ll also need packing tape to seal all the boxes.
Packing Bowls and Plates
It’s best to use a dish barrel carton. Make sure to put all the bowls and plates on the edge in each container. Then, put bubble wrap in between each piece and make sure to leave room at the top of the box to put newsprint in later. Next, take a cardboard box and put either packing peanuts or wadded newsprint at the bottom. Put the layer of bowls or plates in next, and then fill the top and the sides of the box with packing peanuts or newsprint. Then, all you have to do is seal it with packing tape, and make sure to label it as fragile.
Packing Teacups and Glasses
Getting teacups and glasses packed is a little different. First, you should wrap each piece in bubble wrap, and then close it with packing tape. Second, put a layer of packing peanuts or newsprint on the bottom of the box.
Third, place the wrapped teacups or glasses on top of the peanuts or newsprint. Each piece should be placed as if it’s being put on a table. Make sure not to put any of the cups face down. Fourth, put some cardboard on top of that layer and cover it with more packing peanuts or newsprint. You can continue to layer the wrapped cups until you’ve reached the top of the box. All that’s left to do is then seal it with tape and label the box as fragile.
Packing up china or crystal can be a difficult and time consuming task, but it’s important. It will help keep all your items safe while they’re being stored. No matter where you’re storing your items, whether it’s Bloomfield self storage or Sanford self storage, it’s important to pack your fragile items correctly. This is one way to pack them, but there are other ways that may use different materials.
